Metal judtgementThe first question I have is, why would you spend all the money on a CD, artwork, booklet, flyers and shipping and NOT put your CD in a jewel box? You dump out the envelope and see all this cool looking stuff and your expectations are raised, then you pick up the CD and it has a big crack in it! Buzz kill! Apart from a few skips, the first few songs on the CD were playable enough to render a review.
The second question is, do we really need to listen to people sing English when it is obviously not their first language? I didn’t realize these guys were singing in English until the third time I listened to this CD. Honestly, I don’t care what these guys have to say unless it’s really really deep. So if they sing heavy sounding shit in Spanish, English or Swahili, I don’t care as long as it’s heavy and good. The problem is Toni’s English just sounds forced, not to mention there is a noticeable lack of any discernable melody. He’s not fooling anyone. Example:
The energy you call god
we call it fucking love
and peoples' true calling
is to procreate
we are metal gods
singing hard and heavy
pretty cashiers love us
yes, then we feel possess
many who believe like us
C’mon! Does that make any sense? Please stick to what you know. Don’t propagate bad prose. Say what you have to say in your own language. If necessary, get someone to translate it for the English version. I’d like to think he could be a passable singer if he had a clue what he was saying.
Apart from the skips, the CD sounds pretty good. Not great, but good for low budget production. Thank you, Voliac, whoever you are. The guitars and bass are tight. Sadly, all the best acoustic stuff was ruined by the skipping CD. The drummer missed a couple things but he sounds pretty good. They have that early Metallica kind of sound without all the cool guitar riffs, drum fills and growling vocals. Kind of a Caffeine-Free, Diet Metallica Lite — with dressing on the side.
The guys in the band all sound like they can play their instruments well and I like the sound the band is going for. In fact, if it wasn’t for the vocals, they would sound like a real heavy metal band. In fact, they look like a real band. However, I think they need a major overhaul. The band claims to have been around since 1992. According to them this CD is from 2000, but it could easily have been made in 1992, i.e. nothing new here.
